Am I too old or too young to try dating online? |
As this question of a social scientist and the answer will surely be different than if it is asked of a man or a women directly. Darwin's courting ritual theory once theorized that the male and female of every species are looking for essentially the same things: men are looking for young and healthy looking women than may be able to bare healthy children, while women are looking for verile and successful men that can provide a seed and resources for the nest. According to Darwin this is all in an attempt to ensure the greatest likelihood of procreational success for this generation and generations to come by ensuring a strong and successful offspring.
Even though this theory may sound a little too crass and pragmatic for some, it can certainly be traced back through most cultures and some time or another and it is really only recently as society has evolved beyond having to worry about such things as food and shelter that perhaps these gender roles have loosened a bit. Today, in most of the developed World you will find many women and men alike that would instead express personality characteristics as a top priority.
Recent reality TV game shows such as the Bachelor however have shown that no matter how great of a personality, people are still interested in finding the best possible match on a basic procreational level (looks and money), even if they deny it. This seems to suggest that while personality is important; your ability to perform this traditional gender role effectively may actually have a greater impact on your dating success than personality alone; and even if the dating couple is aware of it consciously or not.
